AAFPRS HOLDS FALL MEETING AND ANNOUNCES NEW PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT
Stephen S. Park, MD, FACS of Charlottesville, VA, has assumed the Presidency of the The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) and will serve the 2014-2015 year term. AAAFPRS held its 2014 Fall Meeting September 18-21 in Orlando. Dr. Park is widely recognized as a leader in the field of facial plastic surgery, lecturing nationally and internationally on his surgical techniques and medical philosophy. With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Park is also dedicated to academic advancement of the field and serves as the Vice-Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Virginia. Dr. Park is board certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and is a diplomat of the American Board of Otolaryngology. Dr. Park is renowned for his expertise in facial plastic surgery, with a particular focus on aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Park actively participates in the AAFPRS' Face to Face program, which provides pro-bono cosmetic and reconstructive surgery services to abused women.
Additionally, Edwin F. Williams, III, MD was elected as President Elect for the 2014-2015 term. Currently the Group VP for Public and Regulatory Affairs for the AAFPRS, Dr. Williams is a board certified facial plastic surgeon and founder of Williams Center Plastic Surgery Specialists in Albany, New York. He is a Diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. With his active involvement in Continuing Medical Education, Dr. Williams has also qualified for the American Medical Association Physician Recognition Award.
ASLMS HOSTS NEW LASER AESTHETIC COURSES
In response to the success of the West Coast course, The American Society of Laser Medicine & Surgery (ASLMS) added an East Coast Laser Aesthetics Course. The courses are designed for individuals in the industry who use or are investigating the use of lasers and other light based technology in an array of clinical aesthetic applications. The East Coast course, held September 20-21, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency in Jersey City, NJ, was codirected by Anne M. Chapas, MD and Jennifer L. MacGregor, MD.
Faculty at the Beckman Laser Institute in Irvine, CA, led by J. Stuart Nelson, MD, PhD, will conduct the Laser Aesthetics course at the Institute on November 15-16, 2014. Faculty members include Emil A. Tanghetti, MD, E. Victor Ross, MD, and Gerald N. Goldberg, MD. Topics covered include hair removal, vascular lesions, skin tightening, skin rejuvenation, acne scars, port wine stains, irregular pigmentations, body contouring, melasma, and video endpoints of popular clinical applications. Also provided in the course are best practice patient selection criteria, safety procedures, and patient relationship building methods, which result in improved patient outcomes.
