Beauty Counter MD
TikTokers have a new beauty hack, and this one takes the cake. Growing numbers of people are using lube as a makeup primer (Yes, that lube). They claim it “gets tacky and grippy” for a great base. Some are also mixing the lube with their foundation for a smoother make-up application.

This is unbelievable and not in a good way, says Jeanine B. Downie, MD, FAAD, director of image Dermatology PC in Montclair, NJ. “You should not use something created for your genitals on your face. Not now. Not ever.”
Some lubes are scented and others provide warming sensations that can really irritate your skin. Lubes may contain yLang yLang, aloe vera, preservatives, additives, and irritants that can clog pores and cause breakouts for people with significant cystic or comedonal acne. “Other lubes have spermicide in them, and spermicide and your facial skin do not go hand-in-hand.”
Lubes are formulated to be on the genital skin for a temporary amount of time, not left on your face all day. “I give this new hack a straight thumbs down.”
