Anthony E. Brissett, MD, FACS, a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon based in Houston, has been named President of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) for the 2025–2026 term. His appointment was formalized during the AAFPRS Annual Business Meeting held on September 20, 2025, in Los Angeles.
Dr. Brissett, a professor of otolaryngology at Weill Cornell Medical College and Chief of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Houston Methodist Hospital, is internationally recognized for his clinical work in rhinoplasty, facial rejuvenation, trauma reconstruction, and complex facial surgery. He completed his residency at the Mayo Clinic and fellowship training at the University of Minnesota.
In his new role, Dr. Brissett plans to prioritize member engagement and educational advancement, including initiatives under the AAFPRS Education Reimagination Campaign. His agenda also emphasizes member recruitment and retention, as well as long-term financial sustainability for the organization.
“As AAFPRS President, my goal is to energize our membership through enriched educational opportunities and deeper, more meaningful engagement,” Dr. Brissett said in a press release. “I’m equally focused on attracting new members, strengthening member retention, and fostering the connections that keep our exceptional community thriving.”
He succeeds Patrick J. Byrne, MD, MBA, who praised Dr. Brissett’s leadership and long-standing commitment to the Academy. The AAFPRS, the largest specialty association for facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, advocates for high standards in clinical care, ethics, and education within the field.
“Dr. Brissett brings a highly beneficial combination of insight, integrity, and leadership experience to his new role as AAFPRS President,” said Steve Jurich, Executive Vice President and CEO of the AAFPRS. “With an impressive track record of service across our committees, educational initiatives, and board leadership, Dr. Brissett has an exceptional grasp of our Academy and our membership. His strategic vision and deep institutional knowledge will be invaluable in strengthening our ability to actualize our mission, while driving progress for both the AAFPRS and the facial plastic and reconstructive surgery specialty.”
