There are a lot of energy-based devices available on the market to aesthetic providers. We took a quick survey of leading clinicians to see what devices they have recently added to their practice, and why. They shared their preferences with Modern Aesthetics’ chief medical editor, Heidi A. Waldorf, MD.

What device did you purchase in 2023 or do you plan to purchase before the end of the year for your office and why?

Flora Levin, MD, FACS, oculofacial & cosmetic eyelid surgeon, Westport, CT

Profound Matrix from Candela—their new RF microneedling device. Even though I have Morpheus (for almost five years), I feel that the matrix is gentler while more effective, especially in the eye area.

Yael Halaas, MD, owner of Yael Halaas MD PLLC, New York, NY

1. Emface—love it. Patients love it and it really works in a whole different way than we have treated before.

2. ADVATx (ADVALight laser)--excellent way to treat reds without pain or purpura.

Philip Werschler, MD, founder of Spokane Dermatology Clinic and Werschler Aesthetics Spa, Spokane, WA

PicoLo laser. Second-generation Pico laser allows variable depth with adjustable hand piece. Laser-induced optical breakdown (LIOB) with toning and sculpting as an additional benefit. Takes traditional Pico treatment of pigment/tattoos and scars to a new level of full-face rejuvenation.

Gilly Munavalli, MD, medical director and owner of Dermatology, Laser & Vein Specialists of the Carolinas, Charlotte, NC

Ellacor Microcoring device. I wanted to try something different, non-energy based for mid-cheek, jowl, and neck laxity. I like the option to combine with laser/energy-based devices if needed. I did some trials with a similar device that isn’t on the market yet and found it safe and modestly effective. I think I can improve on that with some tweaks.

Ellen Marmur, MD, dermatologic surgeon at Marmur Medical, New York, NY

mJoule with new 532nm BBL, ClearSilk and ClearV. Why? We needed a next level, reliable, powerful system for a full spectrum of vascular concerns from flushing to periorbital veins. This new generation device was perfected by the best laser surgeons with new handpieces, user friendly algorithms, and new technologies such as the narrow band 532nm filter that hits a triple absorption peak for vessels. Super happy.
