U.SK Under Skin’s Super C Restorative Cream
In each edition, Modern Aesthetics® asks top cosmetic physicians about the newest cosmeceuticals they are offering to patients. Here, Ava Shamban, MD, a dermatologist in Los Angeles, discusses the many benefits of U.SK Under Skin’s new Super C Restorative Cream.
What is U.SK Under Skin’s Super C Restorative Cream?
Ava Shamban, MD: The U.SK Under Skin Super C Restorative Cream is a combination of Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate (20% Vitamin C Ester) combined with Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E) in a highly penetrative and stabilized formula that serves to brighten and even skin tone and decrease the appearance of wrinkles. The Super C also delivers a potent dose of antioxidants to ward off free radicals, fight additional photoaging, and protect against the environmental damage and collagen degradation that alter normal skin structures and contribute to the early onset of visible and actual cellular aging.
How do you suggest patients use Super C Restorative Cream?
Dr. Shamban: To be most effective, you want to introduce Vitamin C in the morning on freshly cleansed skin, but as this is a moisturizer with a potent vitamin C level and a high absorption rate, you can add it after your cleansing, toning, and serums in the morning. It is for daily usage and always should be followed by sunscreen. This is a best practice and my personal recommendation.

What have the clinical studies of Super C Restorative Cream shown?
Dr. Shamban: Performance studies and trials conducted by the brand for Super C Restorative Cream have shown reduction of wrinkles and fine lines, an improvement in firmness, an improved moisture quotient in the more superficial and dermis layers, and an overall improvement in the visual appearance of face and neck.
How does Super C Restorative Cream compare with other products in this category?
Dr. Shamban: Vitamin C is a workhorse in terms of being a highly effective antioxidant to lighten and brighten and reducing or eliminating visible sun damage and signs of aging. Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate is almost infallible, as it is an oil-soluble derivative of Vitamin C that is more stable than many other forms. It can be used in higher concentrations without drawbacks. It’s the high concentration (20%) that makes it a standout. It has a fast and highly effective delivery system to protect users from damage and contributes to improved moisture levels. However, being a derivative, its potency is perhaps not directly comparable to pure L-Ascorbic Acid in all its benefits, but it is highly effective in brightening, and benefits are seen with all skin types including acne-prone skin. It has the added bonus of reducing comedones and lipid peroxidation and actually improves acneic skin, which elevates this product specifically for that patient population. The product is dispensed in an airtight pump, which lowers the risk of oxidation.
What procedures does Super C Restorative Cream compliment?
Dr. Shamban: Really just about anything we do in the office, from injectables to lasers to radiofrequency tissue tightening to focused ultrasound. It is a potent antioxidant useful for healing and optimization of results. Generally, it works best in combination with hyaluronic acid, ferulic acid, or Vitamin E. It can be used with a retinol. It can also be used in tandem with U.SK Under Skin’s Desire Sculpt Serum, a low-weight hyaluronic acid that will help boost collagen levels and give a dewy finish, along with the patented TensylTech technology. It can also be used with their Precious Elixirs which include growth factors and nano-particles of gold platinum, diamond, or pearl associated with the benefits of renewal, remineralization, replacement and skin regeneration.
How important is skincare in your practice philosophy?
Dr. Shamban: Skincare enhances the results from in-office treatments. We treat the patient as a whole and advise treatment protocols and regimens from a very holistic point of view in order to achieve personal goals for skin health and skin resilience. It is all a balancing act. Each component is integral to support and elevate the overall results. Just like we need the nutritional value of protein, carbohydrates, fats, exercise, proper sleep, and hydration to work together for our health and wellness, our skin has its own recipe to success. In-office treatments, protocols, and procedures are important, but what you do daily at home is key to support ongoing benefits. Eliminating sunscreen, moisturizing, exfoliation, or advanced actives daily is highly counterintuitive to the time, money, and effort spent in the dermatologist’s office.
