Advanced RGN-6: A New Generation of Aesthetic Recovery Cream Technology for Post-Procedure and Daily Use

In a vast aesthetic procedure market, laser treatments are a primary procedure choice for physicians to treat patients with concerns of aging. Laser resurfacing is an ideal modality to target signs of aging by causing microdamage in a controlled manner to trigger regeneration and reverse aging damage. Inspired by laser regeneration science, SkinCeuticals’ new Advanced RGN-6 cream can be integrated into a treatment regimen for both post-procedure care and daily usage for improvements in skin aging. The patented technology, developed in collaboration with 20 skin regeneration scientists from the United States, Europe, and China, contains six active ingredients for six distinct dimensions of regeneration: 10% glycorepair, 1% eperuline, 2% niacinamide, 3% acetyl tetrapeptide-9, 0.2% ectoin, and—exclusive to L’Oréal—0.2% bioceramide 603.

Proven by robust and inclusive clinical testing, Advanced RGN-6 can be beneficial as monotherapy to improve signs of skin aging and integrated with laser to amplify rejuvenation outcomes. In a 12-week clinical study conducted on 76 patients with Fitzpatrick type I-VI, ages 35 to 60, presenting with mild to moderate signs of aging (including wrinkles, fine lines, uneven skin tone, dullness, rough skin texture, laxity, redness, and appearance of pores, with some patients presenting with stubborn dark spots and/or post-acne marks), patients applied the cream twice daily in conjunction with standard skincare. At 12 weeks, using Advanced RGN-6 alone was shown to reduce visible redness by 69%, PIH by 36%, wrinkles by 18%, pores by 17%, and dark spots by 26% while increasing smoothness by 35%.1 It has been shown in studies to reduce TEWL by 22% after 12 weeks and increase skin barrier thickness by 4% after 12 weeks.1

Physician-tested to complement laser regeneration procedures, the cream has been clinically shown to improve more than six anti-aging results.1 In an ablative laser healing study, Advanced RGN-6 showed greater improvement in visual smoothness, surface roughness, and hydration than the leading anhydrous competitor and laser alone at just 1 week post-laser.1 The cream is being evaluated in a split-face study conducted on subjects following ablative laser treatment to evaluate post-procedure downtime and signs of aging post-laser.1 We are very excited to share these impressive repair results and study updates with our physicians to help support their patients in attaining their rejuvenation goals.

What is the role of traditional post-procedure skincare and what opportunities or gaps can the new Advanced RGN-6 from Skinceuticals help improve or address?

Corey L. Hartman, MD, FAAD: In the past, post-procedure skincare has focused solely on restoring the skin to optimal condition following the controlled injury of the device in question. The main goals have been to reduce inflammation and repair the skin barrier.

What post-procedure cream qualities do you seek? After a laser procedure, how eager are patients to have a skin cream that is specifically designed to help them recover?

Dr. Hartman: A good post-procedure cream should be soothing to the skin with a pleasant aroma while helping to reduce inflammation from the procedure and from the environment. It should also support both skin barrier repair and the growth of collagen and elastin. It should manage pigment effectively and increase the energy levels of the skin cells so that they perform superiorly. Finally, a good post-procedure cream should maintain the homeostasis of the skin, including hydration levels.

What ingredient technology and type of results stand out to you with Advanced RGN-6 compared to other post-procedure skin creams you have used in your practice?

Dr. Hartman: The proprietary 0.2% bioceramide 603 is intriguing for its ability to reduce post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and repair the skin’s barrier.1 I am also interested in the activity of the ectoin because it has the unique ability to protect cells from oxidative stress, optimize the efficiency of the mitochondrial energy production, and reduce inflammation.2

How would you recommend integrating this product for daily use for patients, and would it benefit those who are not ready for in-office procedures?

Dr. Hartman: In my practice, we have had advance access and have found success in having patients prepare the skin for 2 weeks before laser resurfacing, microneedling, radiofrequency, and light device treatments and then continue using RGN-6 for 2 to 3 months after the procedure or during the series of procedures to restore the skin and prepare it for the environment and subsequent in-office procedures. Patients have found it to be easy to incorporate into their regimens and have reported increased efficacy of a variety of procedures that we provide.
