It’s no secret that celebrities have an exponential influence on trends in the United States, and aesthetic medicine is no exception.
Modern Aesthetics Executive Editor Kay Durairaj, MD, FACS, identified three women who shifted the aesthetic focus in 2024: Lindsay Lohan, Ariana Grande, and Christina Aguilera. Dr. Durairaj compares these women’s impact to years past when Beyoncé and Taylor Swift “drove the national economy.”
What does this mean for aesthetic medicine in the upcoming year?
“These women have had such beautiful makeover stories involving an integrated approach: a little bit of surgery, a little bit of dissolving, restructuring, and getting healthier … wellness from within,” Dr. Durairaj said. “So, they’ve gotten detoxed, loss a little weight, and everybody looks fresh, tight, toned, and beautiful.”
At Dr. Durairaj’s Los Angeles practice, Beauty By Dr. Kay, the Lindsay Lohan glow-up is one of the most requested outcomes.
“That involves a little bit of surgery, a little eyelid tightening, a little bit of lifting,” Dr. Durairaj said. “Really strategically micro-dropping of lip placement and fillers, collagen stimulators.”
The aesthetic shift brought on by these three women, she added, has triggered providers and consumers to understand “the days of filler fear are over.”
“You don’t have to have filler fear,” Dr. Durairaj said. “An integrative approach to redoing your features is going to keep your patients coming in, keep them natural, keep them revitalized, and it really shows when you’re doing things that feel good on the inside, your wellness shows on the outside. Your beauty starts to glow.”
