In each issue, Modern Aesthetics® magazine asks top cosmetic physicians about the newest devices they are introducing to patients in their practices. Here, Sabrina G. Fabi, MD, Research Director at Cosmetic Laser Dermatology in San Diego, shares her experience with the recently launched next generation Clear + Brilliant device from Solta: The Clear +Brilliant Touch.

What is Solta’s Clear + Brilliant Touch?

Sabrina G. Fabi, MD: Clear + Brilliant is a non-invasive procedure that uses fractional laser technology to help prevent early signs of aging, maintain a youthful look, and improve skin’s overall appearance. Clear + Brilliant Touch is the latest generation of this laser system and is designed to provide noticeable results for all ages, skin types, and areas on the face, chest or hands. By switching between two wavelengths with the Original and Perméa handpieces, Clear + Brilliant Touch allows health care professionals to offer a Complete Treatment that provides results based on each patient’s skin type and desired outcome. The Complete Treatment combines distinctive hand pieces and utilizes two laser wavelengths to efficiently deliver both a superficial and deeper treatment in one appointment.

How does Clear + Brilliant Touch compare to other energy-based devices with similar indications?

Dr. Fabi: It is versatile because it has two wavelengths to choose from: A 1927nm diode to help with pigment in all skin types and the 1440nm diode, which I love to couple with an intense pulsed light (IPL) on the same day for a light photofractional treatment that only creates mildness redness and swelling, compared to other photofractional treatments.

How are you using The Clear + Brilliant Touch device in practice?

Dr. Fabi: I pair the Clear + Brilliant Original with all of my IPL treatments to offer patients a significant result, especially with texture and pores, that they can’t achieve with just an IPL alone. I offer the Clear + Brilliant Perméa to Fitzpatrick IV and V patients who don’t want to take the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or rebound pigmentation from a laser treatment or who don’t want the down time. I also offer Clear + Brilliant Perméa to help patients that have had a Fraxel DUAL or pico-toning treatment and want to maintain their results.

Any pearls to share?

Dr. Fabi: While treating melasma is off-label, we have found that when treating Fitzpatrick skin types III-V, with and without melasma, our experience is that pigment improved by up to 60 percent without inducing rebound hyperpigmentation after four treatments spaced two to four weeks apart.

Is there a learning curve with Clear + Brilliant Touch?

Dr. Fabi: No. The Clear + Brilliant Touch is extremely easy to use and has an intuitive touchscreen navigation.
