Sofwave Ultrasound Technology Remodels Collagen, Elastin, and Hyaluronic Acid in the Skin

Sofwave’s ultrasound technology is a noninvasive treatment designed to lift sagging skin on the face and neck, improve laxity on the upper arms, and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It can also address acne scars and the short-term appearance of cellulite. The company hosted an event in New York City on September 10 for attendees to learn more about the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved ultrasound technology.
Sapna Palep, MD, founder and medical director of Spring Street Dermatology in New York City, spoke with Modern Aesthetics about Sofwave and how it has benefitted the practice and patients.
Q: Describe the ideal patient who would benefit from a Sofwave treatment.
Any patient who wants to improve laxity and reduce wrinkles, has some acne scars, or wants to reduce the appearance of cellulite.
Q: What impact has this treatment method had on your patients?
It’s had a very positive impact. They love that they can address laxity and wrinkles with minimal downtime and return to work immediately with no issues.
Q: You mentioned the treatment can get a “little spicy” especially in the eyebrow area. What steps do you take to walk your patients through the treatment, especially for patients who are sensitive to the “spicy” temperature?
I begin by applying a benzocaine, lidocaine, and tetracaine topical anesthetic. I also reassure patients that we can take breaks as needed. I explain that the forehead feels more intense because there is no fat in that area. I use a Zimmer Cryotherapy cooling device to give more comfort.
Q: Why should other clinicians consider bringing Sofwave treatments into their practice?
It was really the missing piece for me. I have so many lasers and devices, but I didn’t have something that could address laxity so effectively without any downtime. In a city like New York, it’s been a home run.
