Revealed: What A Girl Wants in a Plastic Surgeon
Nearly half of all female plastic surgery patients have no preference when it comes to the gender of their cosmetic surgeon, a new study show.
Specifically, the report, published in Aesthetic Surgery Journal, found that 46 percent of women had no gender preference when it comes to choosing a doctor, but 26 percent requested a female surgeon, and 1 percent requested a male.
The remaining 27 percent requested a specific doctor, suggesting that reputation is more important to a patient than a plastic surgeon’s gender. “Knowing the factors that are important to a patient in search of a surgeon can inform the individual plastic surgeon’s marketing strategy, website design, blog content, and social media presence,” the study authors conclude.
Female patients’ preference for female doctors may be related to both greater comforts with intimate exams as well as to communication style between female doctors, the study authors note. Visits between female doctors and female patients are longer than when different genders meet for doctor-patient appointments.
