Report: Stability for Cosmetic Surgeries, Minimally Invasive Treatments in 2024

06/26/2025

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons’ (ASPS) 2024 Procedural Statistics Report found the total number of cosmetic surgeries and minimally invasive treatments remained stable in 2024, showing 1% and 3% year-over-year increases.

According to the report, nearly 1.6 million cosmetic surgical procedures were performed in 2024. The top five procedures were liposuction, breast augmentation, abdominoplasty, breast lift, and blepharoplasty. Additionally, there were approximately 28.5 million minimally invasive procedures in 2024, and the top five procedures were neuromodulator injections, hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, skin resurfacing, skin treatment, and lip augmentation (with injectable materials).

“Patients continued to prioritize their aesthetic health in 2024 despite the unpredictable economic uncertainty they faced throughout the year, with growth across plastic surgical procedures, minimally invasive treatments and reconstructive surgery,” ASPS President Scott Hollenbeck, MD, said. “People want to look and feel their best so they can face the challenges of everyday life with greater confidence. However, amid ongoing economic uncertainty, safety must remain the top priority. We strongly recommend that patients consult ASPS Member Surgeons for any cosmetic or reconstructive procedure to ensure the highest standard of care.”

There were also more than 1 million reconstructive procedures performed in 2024. The top five reconstructive procesures were tumor removal (including skin cancer), hand surgery (i.e., carpal tunnel, arthritis, trigger finger), breast reconstruction, maxillofacial surgery, and scar revision.

LIFTS, TUCKS, AND WEIGHT LOSS
The report also highlighted the role plastic surgeons are playing in patients’ weight loss journeys. This year’s report found over 800,000 aesthetic patients are utilizing weight loss medications prescribed by ASPS members.
Twenty percent of GLP-1 patients under the care of ASPS members have already undergone surgery, with 39% considering a surgical procedure and 41% considering a nonsurgical procedure.
The ASPS said while GLP-1 is not a substitute for weight loss surgery, body contouring procedures can help GLP-1 patients achieve balance, improved functionality, and enhanced self-esteem.
Tummy Tucks and face and forehead lifts all grew by 1% since 2023. Upper arm and neck lifts both rose to 2%, and buttock and thigh lifts rose to 3% in 2024.

INJECTABLES RISING
The ASPS attributed the 3% increase in minimally invasive injectable treatments to affordability and shortened recovery times. Injectables remained a clear favorite. Neuromodulators saw a 4% year-over-year increase, maintaining its spot as the top minimally invasive treatment, while HA fillers grew by 1% and the demand for lip and non-HA fillers remained consistently strong.
