Over 26,000 Items of Fake Botox Seized in Thailand Police Raid

Police in Thailand raided fake Botulinum toxin production sites in two areas of Bangkok last week, resulting in the seizure of over 26,000 items, PBSWorld.com reported. The raid was estimated to remove a total of 10 million Thai baht, about $276,000 in US currency, worth of fake products from being distributed.

Police Lt Col Jirakrit Thong, deputy superintendent of the Consumer Protection Police Division (CPPD), explained the search warrants for the two locations in Nawamin and Lat Phrao were issued by the Bangkok North Kwaeng Court after police gathered evidence to support the need for a search warrant.

The Nawamin Soi 111 location was a residence that served as the production site. Police say unregistered drugs were mixed with saline solution in non-standard proportions and packaged in medicine bottles. Next, they were sent to a second location, another residence in Lat Phrao, and packaged in fake medicine boxes with labels and stickers before being delivered to customers.

Police allege the suspected head of the illegal operation is a woman known as “Ploysai.” The customers receiving the illegal products are primarily beauty clinics in Bangkok and its suburbs and the employees who worked for the illegal operation are from neighboring countries.

Botox and medical equipment from a network producing unauthorized fake Boxtox in Bangkok were among the items seized by police and officials from the Thai Food and Drug Administration (TFDA).

The illegal network operated with 5 bank accounts to avoid official scrutiny. The suspect and other individuals who were detained face a total of 7 charges under the Drugs Act, Medical Devices Act, and Cosmetics Act.
