New Report Dives into How Benefits of Ozempic Are Multiplying

GLP-1 drugs could offer numerous health benefits beyond diabetes and weight loss, according to recent studies highlighted in an article on Wired.com. Research is bringing to light the other potential uses of the drugs, including boosting cardiovascular health, protecting the kidneys, improving sleep apnea, and lowering the risk of certain obesity-related cancers.

Recent studies link GLP-1 drugs to treating addiction and slowing cognitive decline that comes with dementia. Researchers are testing these drugs for different health conditions, uncovering how they are working in the body.

“Many of us in the medical community are really beginning to think about these drugs as health promotion drugs, not just weight loss drugs or even anti-obesity drugs,” Harlan Krumholz, a cardiologist and professor at Yale University School of Medicine, explained to Wired.

Manufacturers of GLP-1 drugs are working towards gaining approval to treat more than weight loss.

The Future of Fat Reduction was published in the latest issue of Modern Aesthetics magazine. The article highlighted the need for body contouring and other aesthetic procedures that are needed with the increase in weight-loss drugs.

With the increase in success stories and uptick in research to treat other health conditions, like most treatments, it’s important to note combination therapy involving weight-loss drugs must be utilized with caution. Semaglutides alone bring risk factors that any doctor recommending or prescribing them should understand.

“Changes in the eye can happen with microvasculature,” Dr. Kay Durairaj said. “Medullary thyroid cancer is very rare but a known risk. Pancreatitis is a significant risk because of delayed gastric emptying; acid reflux and constipation also can occur as a result of this.”
