New research published in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reveals an innovative technique that may advance the treatment of baldness. In the article “Regenerative Hair Transplant: Innovation in Hair Transplantation Regenerative® Hair Transplant” the authors concluded that combining hair transplantation with the use of autologous mesenchymal cells (MSCs) promotes hair growth and increases hair density and quality.1

The researchers used follicular stem cells obtained during hair transplantation using the regenerative hair transplantation method. After extraction, the follicles underwent dissection and filtration. The resulting solution was injected into the transplant recipient area, where native follicles were present.

Analysis revealed a high percentage of cells marked with CD44. Additional analyses combined cell type and quantity indicated that most cells had a phenotypic profile consistent with dermal papilla MSCs.

This approach has been described as innovative because, to date, no prior study has documented this specific combination of techniques in the literature.
