Facebook, the parent company of Instagram, is tightening restrictions on posts related to diet products and cosmetic surgery. The social media platforms will ban posts promoting dubious weight loss products that are linked to a commercial offer and will block users who are under 18 from viewing content that promotes the use of certain weight loss products and cosmetic procedures, according to media reports. Users will also be able to report posts they believe are in violation of the rules.
"We will remove or restrict content if it breaks our Community Guidelines, once reported to us by the community," a Facebook spokesperson told Mashable.
The social media giant is taking these steps to ease the pressure young people may feel to look and live a certain way based on images presented on these sites. The social media platform has also been blamed for a rise in interest in plastic surgery among younger individuals.
