DailyMail.com Highlight’s Plastic Surgeon’s Warning on Lip Filler

07/01/2024

Britain's Daily Mail featured a top plastic surgeon warning people to be careful when getting lip filler after two friends revealed shocking results from injections. Deepak Dugar, MD, is a board-certified plastic surgeon and has treated celebrity patients, including TikTok influencer Madi Monroe and Vanderpump Rules star Dayna Kathan.

“It might seem trendy to dissolve lip fillers right now, but it’s better to never have to get to that point and to just have more optimal filler choices and techniques from day one,” Dugar told DailyMail.com

Dugar says first time lip filler patients should go for a low dose and get touch ups as needed. Patients should also prioritize credentials, not low-cost fillers.

“Go to a board-certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist or nurse, physician’s assistant, or a nurse practitioner who has safety as their main priority, not money,” Dugar said.

He stressed one of the problems with med spa’s today is they are run but private equity firms and other institutional finance firms that “prioritize profit over patient care by default.”

A viral video on social media peaked the attention of Dugar. Demi Passaris and Samuel Venchus went to get their lips redone earlier this year and ended up with oversized pouts, according to DailyMail.com.

The two later clarified their lips were botched, explaining they’d gone in to have previous lip fillers dissolved before getting fresh injections. The combination of extra volume from the dissolving fluid and swelling from the injections causes the temporary ballooning of the lips.

Their lips later returned to normal size.
