Botox Increases 20% in Italy, Non-surgical Procedures Becoming More Popular
Botulinum toxin is becoming more and more popular in Italy. The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery’s 2023 ISAPS International Survey found there were 195,000 non-surgical aesthetics treatments with Botox, which is about 34,000 more than in 2022 and a 20% increase. In general, non-surgical aesthetic procedures have almost doubled the surgical ones.
The study photographs the trend of aesthetic medicine procedures on a global level. In Italy, there were 757,442 which is broken down to 262,000 surgical and about 495,000 procedures that were done “without a scalpel.”
Botulinum toxin was the most popular, followed by hyaluronic acid injections which accounted for about 190,000. Calcium hydroxyapatite injections were far behind accounting for about 12,000. Other popular scalpel-free treatments included hair removal and chemical peels.
The most popular surgical procedures were breast augmentation, followed by eyelid surgery, lip enhancement/perioral procedure, liposuction, and rhinoplasty.
“Treatment with Botulinum toxin is confirmed in first place in the world ranking with almost 9 million interventions, which concern both women and men in different age groups,” said Giovanni Salti, president of the Italian Association of Botulinum Aesthetic Therapy (IABAT). A primacy that we also appreciate in our country and that certifies how this represents, for patients who do not intent to resort to surgical procedures, a safe and effective solutions.”
Salti says in Italy, cosmetic practices focus on interventions, such as facial rejuvenation, chemical peels, skin tightening, or anti-cellulite treatments.
