  1. Allergan Aesthetics released What Consumers Really Want, the latest report in The Aesthetics Evolution series.
  2. The report focuses on consumer motivations, expectations, trust, consultation quality, and demand for natural-looking results.
  3. Findings suggest aesthetics consumers increasingly view treatments as part of a proactive, personalized approach to aging.

Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company, released "What Consumers Really Want," the latest installment in its The Aesthetics Evolution series, examining how consumer motivations, expectations, and perceptions of aesthetic care are changing.

The report follows The Hyaluronic Injectable Fillers Report and profiles today’s aesthetics consumers, including how they approach treatment decisions, what shapes their views of aging, and what they expect from a personalized aesthetic experience.

“Aesthetics is no longer transactional, it’s transformational,” Nicole Mowad-Nassar, Senior Vice President, AbbVie and President, Global Allergan Aesthetics, said in the announcement. “Understanding the consumer landscape and consumer mindset is what drives Allergan Aesthetics’ commitment to advancing innovation, education, and leadership across the industry.”

Consumer Expectations in Aesthetic Care

The report highlights several themes, including consumer willingness to prioritize aesthetics spending, demand for natural-looking outcomes, the role of comprehensive consultations, and the importance of trust in provider relationships.

According to Allergan Aesthetics, 53% of consumers surveyed said they would reduce luxury spending to afford aesthetic treatments, while 75% of health care professionals reported that patients want to look natural. The report also states that 65% of patients who receive multiple full-face consultations treat 3 or more facial areas, compared with 23% after a single visit.

Trust also emerged as a key factor. Allergan Aesthetics reported that the top reason patients return to a previous cosmetic injector is “trust in my practitioner’s action and ability,” ranking above cost and convenience.

The report includes insights from Allergan Aesthetics’ consumer market research, HCP data, expert perspectives, and interviews with aesthetics practitioners in several US markets, including Catherine Chang, MD; Shawna Chrisman, NP; Steven Dayan, MD; Evan Rieder, MD; and Anthony Rossi, MD.
