Eleven years ago, Modern Aesthetics® launched as a unique resource for board-certified physicians from four core medical specialties: dermatology, facial plastic surgery, plastic surgery, and oculoplastic surgery. The goal was to provide expert analysis and discussion of the key medical and business issues specific to their practice needs. In the first issue, Chief Medical Editors Steven H. Dayan, MD, FACS, and Heidi A. Waldorf, MD, FAAD, promised to “lend a guiding voice“ to allow Modern Aesthetics® to grow along with the rapidly evolving aesthetic landscape.

As established global aesthetic leaders, Dr. Dayan and Dr. Waldorf brought expertise, credibility, and imagination to Modern Aesthetics®. Coming from the fields of facial plastic surgery and dermatology, respectively, they prioritized cutting-edge content, practical pearls, and maintaining our multidisciplinary foundation. In addition to outlining content and attracting strong editorial boards and contributors, each created exciting signature series. The seemingly casual discussions in Dr. Dayan’s “Aesthetics Insider” series on MATV gave unprecedented access to the insights of top industry CEOs. Dr. Waldorf’s “Heideas for Aesthetic Practice” brought her no-nonsense logic and humor to issues on the minds of readers. They were a steady presence through challenges ranging from the COVID-19 pandemic to the recent growth of the Modern Aesthetics® staff.

Having established Modern Aesthetics® as an important publication for aesthetic physicians and practitioners, Dr. Dayan and Dr. Waldorf believe it is time to hand the reins to the next generation of leaders. We are grateful for their years of commitment and pleased that they will remain on the team as Emeritus Founding Chief Medical Editors. We would not be here without their efforts.

As we reflect on the past, we also look toward the future. In the next issue of Modern Aesthetics®, we will introduce our new editorial board and some upcoming initiatives. We are confident that they will continue to give our readers and industry partners the quality content you expect from Modern Aesthetics® as they lead us into the next decade.
