Coming

A refreshed Modern Aesthetics magazine

by Heidi W. Moore

A new year often brings with it change – and change is coming to Modern Aesthetics in 2024. The January/February issue will debut several columns and departments that reflect the times we are in and that are designed to help physicians keep current and navigate the future of their practices.

You may have noticed a column that’s recently appeared, “What’s New in 2023?” This column highlights the latest research, advances, treatments, devices, and surgical procedures and gives updates on a specific topic in each issue and will continue with What’s New in 2024. Each column provides the professional opinions of your experienced colleagues and, often, their predictions for coming times.

Love it or hate it, social media pervades your practices, your patients’ lives, and possibly your own lives. Who hasn’t had to dispel myths and counter misinformation with facts and science for their patients? To help us keep up, Social Media Messaging will tell us what’s the latest trend on social media and how is it influencing what we may see in our daily practice.

Compliance, regulations, liability, contracts, employment issues … the coming Legal Matters column will have experienced lawyers providing readers with valuable insights on how to smoothly run a practice and avoid problems.

Whether you are in the early stages of your career, winding down, or somewhere in between, today’s practice landscape is complicated. Practice Models will profile doctors who are making changes to their practice and describe the various ways to sell or structure your practice. These doctors discuss the varying processes by which they transitioned from one practice model to another, providing more than the usual options.

Spotlight will do just that: spotlight KOLs to learn more about them and glean insights that can improve your daily practice.

We can also look forward to more comprehensive conference coverage in Modern Aesthetics as the biggest and most important meetings for our profession are given in-depth treatment in every issue.

We thank Dr. Graivier for his 10 years of valuable contributions to Modern Aesthetics!

Going

A Farewell by Miles Graivier, MD

Coming and Going is…going in 2024. It has been my pleasure and privilege to write this column since 2013. I have loved trend forecasting and having the opportunity to share my thoughts and observations with colleagues. Looking back, we certainly covered a lot of ground from Ozempic Face and the $200K facelift to Barbie makeovers, the Zoom Boom, and the advent of muscle-stimulating energy-based devices, to name a few of the trends that have come and gone throughout my tenure.

Although this column is going, aesthetics is most certainly not. Big things are coming as we embrace and expand upon the concept of regenerative aesthetics. In a nutshell, regenerative aesthetics aims to restore youthful properties to aging, senescent tissue. We have only scratched the surface of what is possible and continue to learn from our colleagues pursuing regenerative medicine, which focuses on the regeneration of injured or diseased tissue with cell-based therapy, biomaterials, tissue engineering, and energy devices that can induce healing. It’s going to be a wild ride! Thank you for reading this column over the years.
