In each issue, Modern Aesthetics® magazine taps cosmetic physicians to discuss the newest devices that they are introducing to patients. Here, Ariel Ostad, MD, a dermatologist in New York City, discusses InMode’s Morpheus 8, which has become a workhorse in his practice in a very short time.
What is Morpheus 8, and how are you using it in practice?
Ariel Ostad, MD: Morpheus 8 is the latest in microneedling technology that delivers powerful radiofrequency (RF) energy up to 8mm in depth. Older models of microneedling devices traditionally only go to 4mm. Morpheus 8 has been designed to deliver maximum RF energy at the deepest levels with minimal downtime for the patient.
In my practice it is becoming the workhorse to treat everything from acne to skin laxity and facial contouring. I like to pair it with my liposuction cases; I apply multiple passes over the treated area to ensure skin tightening and retraction.

How does it work?
Dr. Ostad: Morpheus 8 technology is minimally invasive. It uses tiny 24k gold needles to penetrate deep layers of skin and deliver powerful RF energy to trigger collagen production. The most unique feature of this device is the burst mode. With burst mode, we can deliver RF energy at each millimeter we penetrate instead of just at the deepest layer.
How does Morpheus 8 compare to other microneedling devices?
Dr. Ostad: Morpheus 8 has quickly taken over the world of microneedling because of its efficacy, minimal downtime, and almost unbelievable results. No other microneedling device can target skin texture and tightness as efficiently.
Is there a learning curve?
Dr. Ostad: Morpheus 8 is sophisticated technology. The most important aspect is the settings that are applied. In my practice, I always oversee what settings are being done to ensure optimal results. The procedure is performed by my aesthetic team of registered nurses and physician assistant who have all undergone multiple training with the head of clinical at InMode.
Please share your treatment protocols and any pearls.
Dr. Ostad: We are very particular with what aftercare product our patients use. Because Morpheus 8 is so powerful and triggers so much collagen production, certain aftercare products can cause a reaction on the skin. You don’t want anything too greasy or thick to clog up those channels. We apply our Hydrating Peptide Complex immediately after the procedure is over, but I instruct patients not to apply anything to their skin for the first 24 hours while the microchannels are open. A very pure hyaluronic acid serum is the best thing to apply to skin for the next three days once the first 24 hours are over.
How has the ROI been?
Dr. Ostad: We were successful with Morpheus 8 from day one, mostly because we believed so much in the technology and were excited to offer and speak about it with patients. The ROI has been substantial so far, and we have only had the technology since October.
How are you marketing Morpheus 8?
Dr. Ostad: Whenever I acquire new technology at my practice, I like to send an informative newsletter introducing it and what it can do. With the Morpheus 8, we have been posting incredible before and after photos on our social media pages, which has been helping to make Morpheus 8 a household name. InMode has been very supportive and always gives us recognition on social media. They are also helpful with any marketing efforts and helped us design customized brochures.
