Rodan & Fields, one of the most popular skincare multi-level marketing companies, is under fire for failing to disclose possible side effects of a key ingredient—a prostaglandin isopropyl cloprostenate—in their Lash Boost eye serum.

“Consumers of Lash Boost...have experienced serious side effects, including change(s) in iris color, eyelid drooping, itchy eyes, eye/lid discoloration, thinning and loss of eyelashes/loss of eyelash hair, eye sensitivity, eye infections, and vision impairment,” reads a class action filing in a US District Court in Oakland, CA. At press time, two class action lawsuits had been filed.

“The skin around the eyes is particularly sensitive because it is among the thinnest skin on the body. While over-the-counter products may help enhance the appearance of eyelashes, I personally recommend only prescription Latisse to treat insufficient eyelashes because it is US Food and Drug Administration-approved and has proven efficacy and safety for my patients,” says Dr. Zeichner, Director of Cosmetic & Clinical Research in Dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.
