74th Annual Meeting of the AAD

More than 8,000 physicians—many with a specialization in aesthetics—attended the 74th annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology in Washington, DC in. Modern Aesthetics^®' sister publication Practical Dermatology® magazine and DermTube.com with host Joel L. Cohen, MD a dermatologist in Colorado, offered video coverage of the annual meeting, including the latest advances in aesthetics.

Modern Aesthetics^® Co-chief medical editor Heidi Waldorf, MD explained her approach to helping patients achieve the best, most natural results from noninvasive rejuvenation. She says her patients want to look like themselves after aesthetic treatment—but a healthier, more youthful version of themselves. Dr. Waldorf shared tips for interacting with aesthetic patients to ensure the best outcomes. Eric Bernstein, MD discussed a variety of laser and light devices and their benefits in treating a myriad of dermatological conditions as well as for cosmetic concerns, and shared tips for how to use the devices safely to ensure optimal outcomes and to avoid adverse events. M. Christine Lee, MD provided an overview of some of the new and emerging laser technologies. She discussed advances in everything from lasers and light-based devices to radiofrequency, ultrasound, and combination devices for a variety of issues including facial rejuvenation, vaginal rejuvenation, and skin tightening. And Jill Waibel, MD spoke about advances in laser technology—particularly fractional lasers—and how devices offer an effective option for diminishing the appearance of scars. She reviewed how she's treating all types of scars and skin types, and discussed how and why keloids have been reclassified as a disease.
