“HAIR”
'Why did the bald man put a rabbit on his head? Because he wanted a head of hare.”
Bad pun, but male pattern baldness as well as thinning and loss of hair in men and women continue to plague 80 million men and women in the US alone. Many men have noticeable hair loss by age 35 and many more have appreciable hair thinning by age 50.
Hair transplant procedures continue to gain popularity, especially with newer micrograft hair transplant systems such as ARTAS robotic hair transplant system and Neograft automated hair transplant system. Both of these systems are less invasive and less painful than the hair strip harvesting method. These avoid the potential scarring and pain at the donor sites and have permanent, natural results.
Pills and potions can be effective including Minoxidil (Rogaine), which can be sprayed or rubbed on the scalp twice a day or Finasteride (Propecia), which can be taken once daily. These treatments usually need to be continued as stopping them probably leads to hair loss return. Injectable, topical, and even oral corticosteroids can be used to treat autoimmune alopecia areata.
Several new methods of hair rejuvenation are now available: These include topical anti-DHT therapy, microneedling with application of growth factors (PRP, growth factors such as Glutathione, Cytokines, Vitamins, and co-enzymes, as well as others with anti-DHT agents). These agents can be applied with microneedling to achieve better absorption, increased bloodflow. This alone can lead to better activation of senescent hair roots.
Low-level light therapy with LED lights, often in the red and infrared spectrum, can be in the physicians' office or as a home unit to strengthen and stimulate the hair follicles.
other words, even if we have “Hair today,” we don't want it “Gone tomorrow"
“LIFESTYLE LIFT”
Lifestyle lift closed most of their 40 surgery facilities in early March and is said to be considering filing bankruptcy. The Michigan-based company that promised “a minor one-hour procedure with major results” was fined $300,000 in 2009 for publishing fake reviews. We are still awaiting some (or any for that matter) before and after pictures with standardized views, no make-up, good lighting, and consistent background. If that wasn't likely before, it's not looking good now.
