New in My Practice: Cosmeceuticals

In each edition, Modern Aesthetics^® asks top aesthetic physicians what cosmeceuticals are popular in their practices now. This month, dermatologist JENNIFER M. SEGAL, MD talks about her experience with BODY TIGHTENING CONCENTRATE, part of the Body Correct line from SKINCEUTICALS. Dr. Segal runs the Metropolitan Dermatology Institute in Houston, TX.

WHAT IS THE BODY CORRECT LINE FROM SKINCEUTICALS?

The Body Correct line from SkinCeuticals is a trio of products designed to enhance the overall appearance of the skin on the body, either on their own or as a complement to office-based professional treatments such as body tightening, nonablative skin resurfacing, chemical peels, and laser hair removal. The Body Retexturizing Treatment gently exfoliates to correct dull, rough zones, enhancing skin radiance. The Neck, Chest & Hand Repair addresses crepiness and pigmentation on the hands, neck, and décolleté. The Body Tightening Concentrate improves the appearance of sagging skin on multiple areas on the body. All products work beautifully on their own, and even better when used together.

HOW IS THE BODY TIGHTENING CONCENTRATE FORMULATED? HOW DOES IT WORK?

The Body Tightening Concentrate contains a combination of 2.5% tripeptide, 5% yeast extract, and 2% hydrolyzed rice. The active ingredients stimulate the production of collagen and hydrating substances in the skin (hyaluronic acid, glycosaminoglycans). These work together to “plump” the skin, improving overall texture and appearance.

WHICH PATIENTS ARE THE IDEAL CANDIDATES FOR THIS CONCENTRATE?

The Body Tightening Concentrate is formulated for patients with loose, sagging skin on multiple body zones, including abdomen, thighs, arms, knees, and buttocks. I recommend it to a wide range of ages—from those just starting to notice these changes, to patients who have been concerned about them for some time. For those with early changes, the Body Tightening Concentrate can be a standalone treatment. For those with more extensive changes, the product is a wonderful complement to body contouring procedures.

Both men and women love to use these products—they are not gender exclusive! And patients of all ages benefit from them as well—they are nourishing, soothing, and hydrating (ideal for more mature skin) without being too greasy (a frequent concern in younger skin).
