In each issue, Modern Aesthetics® magazine asks top cosmetic physicians about the newest cosmeceuticals that they are offering to patients. Here, Melda Isaac, MD, founder and director of MI Skin Dermatology and Laser Center in Washington, DC, talks about the newest addition to the DefenAge family: 3D Eye Radiance Cream.

What is DefenAge 3D Eye Radiance Cream?

Melda Isaac, MD: 3D Eye Radiance Cream is new to my practice since February 2019, although I have been carrying the DefenAge range for the past two years. I personally use all of the products and believe the proprietary ingredient—Age-Repair Defensins—reverses the skin’s signs of aging. Defensins stimulate our own body’s dormant stem cells to produce new skin. The 3D Eye Radiance Cream is designed to address challenging cosmetic concerns around the eye area, including visible lifting, firming, and smoothing of the upper eyelids, fading of dark circles and puffiness, and diminishing the appearance of crow’s feet and fine lines.

How does DefenAge 3D Eye Radiance Cream stand out from other eye creams on the market?

Dr. Isaac: DefenAge has scientific and clinical data to show that the Age-Repair Defensins uniquely reprogram skin by targeting our skin’s own stem cells, thus reversing visible signs of aging. With the 3D Eye Radiance Cream, we have seen that puffiness under the eyes is reduced, as well as dark circles. The product firms and smooths fine lines of the crow’s feet on upper and lower eyelids. Not many products can be applied to the upper lid without causing irritation, so this alone is a breakthrough. The metal tip applicator with Cooling Tip Technology allows for a cleaner, finger-free application, and the tip is also soothing to the eyes as the product is applied to the eyelid skin. It is free of irritants, such as parabens, propylene glycol, gluten, and fragrance, and well tolerated by all skin types.

How do you suggest that your patients use this product?

Dr. Isaac: I recommend that 3D Eye Radiance Cream be applied twice daily on clean, dry skin, along with broad spectrum sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30 and a retinol, if tolerated. I tend to recommend DefenAge products to my patients with more mature skin, ages 40 and above.

What type of results are your patients seeing with regular use?

Dr. Isaac: My patients are seeing visible lifting effects, firming and smoothing of the skin around the eyelids, and a diminished appearance of discoloration, puffiness, crow’s feet, and fine lines. Women especially are always looking for the best product to improve the delicate area around the eyes, and 3D Radiance Eye Cream delivers on its promises. Our patients have been very pleased with the results.

What procedures does this product complement?

Dr. Isaac: 3D Eye Radiance Cream compliments all the skin resurfacing procedures we offer in my office, particularly microneedling, radiofrequency, and fractionated lasers. I also recommend it for patients post neuromodulators and fillers around the eyes and upper face.

How does skincare fit in with your practice philosophy?

Dr. Isaac: As a cosmetic dermatologist, skincare is a very important part of my practice and I recommend specific skincare treatments tailored to the age of our patients. We dispense a wide range of products containing key ingredients like retinoids, antioxidants, vitamin C, hyaluronic acids, and growth factors. I always explain to my patients that daily skincare with high-quality products is essential for healthy, younger appearing skin. I liken it to brushing one’s teeth. Patients can go to the doctor’s office for a cosmetic procedure just like visiting the dentist for a cleaning or in-office whitening procedure, but if they don’t practice proper skincare or brush or floss consistently between office treatments, they won’t achieve optimal or lasting results.
