L'Oréal and SkinCeuticals Unveil CUSTOM D.O.S.E

L'Oréal has unveiled CUSTOM D.O.S.E, a personalized skincare service. Developed by L'Oréal's Technology Incubator in partnership with L'Oréal-owned SkinCeuticals, D.O.S.E is a new service engineered to scan and evaluate consumers' unique skin needs and combine active ingredients into a tailor-made, corrective serum.

By the Numbers

That's the reported percent increase in the number of minimally-invasive procedures performed per year since 2000, according to annual statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

Among the 15.7 million cosmetic minimally-invasive procedures performed in 2017, the top 5 were:

  • Botulinum Toxin Type A (7.23 million procedures, up 2 percent from 2016)
  • Soft Tissue Fillers (2.69 million procedures, up 3 percent from 2016)
  • Chemical Peel (1.37 million procedures,
  • Laser hair removal (1.1 million procedures, down 2 percent from 2016)
  • Microdermabrasion (740,287 procedures, down 4 percent from 2016)

“D.O.S.E acts like a mini skincare laboratory, combining lab grade formulation and factory grade manufacturing into a machine that sits on the counter,” says Guive Balooch, Global Vice President of L'Oréal's Technology Incubator, in a news release.

The D.O.S.E technology is first-of-its-kind because it is able to mix active ingredients, chosen specifically to target the appearance of skin aging issues, like wrinkles, fine lines, and discoloration, into a single serum. D.O.S.E has a production-quality compounder that operates at 1,200 rotations per minute to mix ingredients precisely, drop by drop. The machine combines active ingredients that historically were unmixable outside of a factory setting, L'Oréal says.

Through this technology, skincare professionals can administer a single D.O.S.E serum with multiple active ingredients that address the appearance of multiple skin concerns. More than 250 unique skin types were considered when researching and selecting active ingredients to include in D.O.S.E in order to provide dozens of combinations through over 2,000 algorithms.

L'Oréal scientists spent 12 months determining what formulations would be most efficacious based on consumer needs and ensured the technology could dispense the formula accurately.

New Foundation Aims to Help Parkland, FL Community Recover After Mass School Shooting

Modern Aesthetics® contributors Jay and Mara Shorr, Managing Partners of Shorr Solutions, started a Foundation to help honor the students and teachers who were killed during a mass school shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in their hometown of Coral Springs/Parkland, FL on February 14, 2018, and to make sure this never happens again.

MSD Save Our Schools aims to offset expenses associated with implementation of in-school educational and safety programs.

Jay and Mara Shorr say any donations are welcomed and appreciated. All monies collected will be deposited into PNC Bank and will go directly to the endowment which is a pending 501(c)(3) organization. No member of the board or any committee will be paid for their services.

The D.O.S.E experience begins with a one-on-one skincare professional consultation to discuss which active ingredients will be most appropriate for the patient. The skincare professional completes an assessment on a tablet, which transfers the data to the D.O.S.E machine that mixes and dispenses the customized serum. A custom label is then printed for each consumer, including an expiration date and a bar code for easy reordering.

CUSTOM D.O.S.E will be available in select US physician offices nationwide in summer 2018.

CareCredit Enters Day and Med Spa Markets

CareCredit is expanding into the day and medical spa markets. As part of this new program, CareCredit partnered with the American Med Spa Association and the Spa Industry Association to bring the benefits of CareCredit to their practices.

Providers can now offer clients access to more treatments and services while also expanding their potential client base to CareCredit's 11 million cardholders, the company says. Participating spas will also become a part of the CareCredit network of qualified providers, which receives more than 850,000 searches per month.
