Functional and Aesthetic Improvement Post-partum
A 32-year-old woman presented one year postpartum after a second vaginal birth. Her first birth was a C-section.
She complained of urinary and bowel incontinence, weak abdominal and pelvic muscles, Diastasis recti (separation of abdominal wall muscles), and abdominal wall laxity. She had attended pelvic floor physical therapy for 12 weeks.

She was treated with four Emsculpt NEO sessions for the abdominal wall, provided one week apart. As a result, the 2.5-fingers wide diastasis reduced to 1-finger wide. Her abdominal muscles are more toned and her lower belly pooch is reduced. Additionally, six Emsella sessions were provided, two per week for three weeks.
By treatment 4 of both devices, the patient was dry when running and full activity. Bowel smearing was gone. She had not resumed sexual activity yet.
Sixty to 70 percent of women will have a diastasis during pregnancy. Urinary incontinence is a common complaint during and after pregnancy. In fact, 20 percent of women will have surgery for incontinence and prolapse. All women should be referred to pelvic floor physical therapy for body mechanics and breathwork. Until now, there has not been another non-invasive treatment for strengthening the pelvic floor and the abdominal wall.
The 30 percent fat loss, 25 percent muscle gain, 19 percent reduction in abdominal separation, and 6cm reduction in waist circumference is reproducible.1-3 A woman could not do enough pelvic floor contractions or gain muscle in the pelvic floor on their own.
Emsella is a game-changer when it comes to building, stabilizing, and strengthening the pelvic floor muscles. The pelvic floor is the foundation of the core. Emsculpt NEO can address the other aspects of the core—abdominal wall and glutes rounds out the complete Core-to-Floor restoration.
