At its core, HIPAA is really about patient safety. Patients have to feel comfortable sharing their confidential information with a physician—the basis for the physician/patient relationship. Practices have to have good strong practices in place and follow the law so patients feel confident in sharing information. A security risk analysis helps a practice discover where it is vulnerable, and where it’s not. From EMRs and smart password use to employee protocols and use of mobile devices, Mike Sacopulos, JD, Founder of Medical Risk Institute shares insights with Steven Dayan, MD.
