New in My Practice: Cosmeceuticals
With Ava Shamban, MD
In each edition, Modern Aesthetics® asks top physicians what cosmeceuticals are popular in their practice today. Here, Ava Shamban, MD, a dermatologist in Southern California, discusses Regenica Rejuvenating Dual Serum, the latest addition to Suneva’s Regenica product line.
There is very solid science behind Regenica Rejuvenating Dual Serum. It is formulated with a 95 percent concentration of patented MRCx growth factor technology, proteins, peptides, antioxidants, and moisturizing agents, suspended in a soothing, cooling gel.
Growth factors may signal and stimulate tissue repair, regeneration, and the production of collagen, elastin, and extracellular matrix. To develop the formula, Gail Naughton, PhD, CEO, chairman of the board at Histogen—which is the licensor of the patent and supplies Suneva with the line’s MRCx growth factor technology—and one of the original developers of TNS growth factor technology, studied what made the prenatal environment unique, and found a way to mimic it to create the growth factors.
How do you incorporate these products in your practice?
It is ideal to use after cleansing and underneath a sun protection factor (SPF)-containing product or other moisturizing cream. It can be applied twice daily as a standalone skincare product or paired with Regenica Revitalizing Eye Crème and other products from the Regenica line. Scientifically based skincare is an important adjunct to any procedure that I do in my office, whether it be lasers, fillers, or tissue tighteners.
I recommend it both before and after treatments to enhance results. It can be applied at night following injections and the second day after laser skin rejuvenation and/or microneedling. The whole Regenica line is terrific and works synergistically. It includes Regenica Renew SPF 15, Regenica Replenishing Crème, Regenica Repair Complex, and Regenica Recovery Gel.
Are your patients happy with the results?
Yes. Very. My patients are always in search of a serum that they know will pack a powerful punch, reducing the appearance of fine lines and helping to even out overall skin tone and appearance. They really see an actual improvement with this serum. There is instant gratification, and then they will see even more improvement over the long term. It has become a staple in my practice. The growth factors people lose with age are supplemented for a more youthful and healthy appearance—something my patients are always looking for. An ongoing clinical study backs this up. In it, women were asked to use Regenica Rejuvenating Dual Serum on their entire face, twice daily. More than 97 percent of patients were satisfied with the serum at 30 days and would also recommend the product to a friend. When asked about the product’s texture and color, 100 percent of patients were satisfied; 97 percent were satisfied with the smell.
